25 for 2025: A List of Games Coming This Year!
With a new year always comes new possibilities and a fresh outlook on the year ahead. We will do better and have a better year is always the focus. According to my daughter, odd years are always better, they go slower, and you get to have more fun in them. Strong sentiment from one so young, I like it and am going to run with it.
So to that effect, here are 25 games that I am looking forward to in 2025!
I bring these to you in no particular order and those that don’t have a confirmed date may be a little wishful but we are being positive remember. Well trying our best too.
Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA IV)
The juggernaut that is GTA is due for its next interaction this year. When you ask? No idea, currently slated for a 3rd quarter release we have not heard anything since May 2024 and no trailer update since December 2023. This is going to be huge and anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2
Dropping February KCD2 is the follow up to the 2018 sleeper hit original. Set in 15th century Bohemia you take control of Henry of Skalitz and are set on a tale of epic proportions. One for the RPG lovers, be sure to keep your eyes out for this one. Review codes are apparently out a full month early showing the confidence Warhorse Studios has in their product!
Assassins Creed Shadows
AC fans finally got what they have been asking for for so long, a story set in Feudal Japan. Unfortunately after some questionable choices from Ubisoft and the subsequent hatred spewed online last year, this one looks to be dead before it even hits the shelves. I’m interested in the story, I’ll play it, but won’t support Ubi’s money hungry practices anymore. This will be a sale purchase later on for me. Out Feb 14th and available on just about everything.
Avowed
Another roasted in the court of public opinion thanks to a certain director spewing hatred, Avowed is going to have a hard time this year. A fantasy RPG set within the world of Eora, this will be the first AAA title from Obsidian since Microsoft bought the studio in 2018. Promising a big open world with a variety of characters and play styles this one looks to be a good trip away from reality for a while. Coming to Gamepass on PC and Xbox Feb 14th it looks to be well worth the download for RPG fans.
Sniper Elite: Resistance
Resistance is turning up the content for this next entry in the franchise to heights not seen before. The Nazis have a new weapon that guarantees they win the war in the main stand alone story. Coupled with new side mission types and a hidden Propaganda mission to unlock this promises to offer a good amount for you to sink your teeth into. Coming to everything Jan 30th and a day one Gamepass drop.
Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game
A cosy little life sim builder where you can create your own hobbit, move into your own hobbit hole, forage for goods to unlock customisation options and fish till your heart's content. Oh you can talk to the other hobbits too if you’re into that sort of thing. Available on just about everything, even Netflix Games, March 25th.
Atomfall
Looks to be a UK based Fallout but promises so much more. Set in an alternate 1960s northern England players are tasked with surviving. You will need to manage your health and your heart rate with many things contributing to your heart giving out. A survival game where you can survive without killing a single enemy, or you can be like me and try to take out every last one. From Rebellion Developments Atomfall is releasing March 27th on everything.
An interesting one that normally wouldn’t peak my interest but after Wukong last year I am willing to give another hardcore action RPG a go. You become Khazan the great general of the Pell Los Empire, a once celebrated hero jealousy brought about your demise seeing you tortured and exiled to the mountains. Vengeance will be had. An interesting story could be the first big hit from developer Neople. Another releasing late March on PS5, Xbox and PC.
Coming from the team that brought you It Takes Two comes their next co-op adventure. Share in this unpredictable new world taking control of Mia and Zoe, two writers trapped in a simulation of their own imaginations after an attempt to steal their ideas goes wrong. Full of Dragons, Trolls and Cyber Ninjas you’ll need to work together to get through this one. March 7th release and again a friend can join you with Friends pass.
Monster Hunter Wilds
The sixth entry in Capcom's Monster Hunter world, take a journey to the Forbidden Lands in what is touted to be the series most immersive story and world yet. Hunt massive enemies alone or with friends with cross-play supported for the first time. Releasing Feb 28th while not for me the hype around a new Monster Hunter is always a positive sign.
Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
A souls like action RPG set during the late Ming Dynasty. Take on the role of Wuchang, a skilled pirate cursed with amnesia, you must battle through a disease ridden land spawning foul creatures to uncover your past and find the truth and alter the fate of the lands. A dynamic combat system and some gorgeous visuals puts this one towards the top of my list. Only a 2025 release date for now.
Little Nightmares 3
Supermassive Games has some big shoes to fill with Bandai Namco taking over development for the next installment in the Little Nightmares universe. Join characters Low and Alone as they search for a path to lead them out of Nowhere. Online Co-Op is available for the first time to help you navigate the illusion filled world. Originally slated for a late 2024 release it has been pushed back to some time this year.
Crimson Desert
I feel like we have been waiting on Crimson Desert for a while now. Originally announced at the 2020 Game awards Pearl Abyss has been relatively scant with information only releasing drips over the past couple of years. An open world action adventure game with MMO elements looks like a good time but we will have to wait and see. Late 2025 for this one, though I think it may be pushed to 2026.
The Occultist
Only announced a few months ago but with a 2025 release date expect this one around October. A survival horror pulling in all the goods from similar in the genre you play as Alan Rebels. Tasked with travelling to a mysterious cursed island to find his father it is up to you to unlock the secrets and free the island from the curse. Horror setting, paranormal investigation and what looks to be some differing choices has me excited for this one. Releasing on PC, PS5 and Xbox when it gets here.
Mouse: P.I. for Hire
Had a quick go of this one at last years PAX and was hooked, forgot it was due so soon until recently confirmed by Fumi Games and PlaySide Studios. A first person shooter with an art style closely resembling early Mickey Mouse cartoons. As PI Jack Pepper you will discover a city full of heavily armed gangs, the mob and unsavory characters. Get out there and clean those streets! Confirmed to be releasing this year, being an Aussie publisher I would keep an eye around July.
Fable
Just hurry up and get here. Playground Games and Microsoft have given us a 2025 release window for this fourth game in the Fable franchise. A fantasy RPG I don’t know a lot about and have never played all the way through any of the initial ones. I'll be happy to jump into this thanks to Gamepass. Some big names grace the credits and an ever bigger weight of expectation means Fable has a lot of people hanging out for some more information and to get their hands on it.
Baby Steps
A literal walking simulator. Sounds stupid but just hear me out. Devolver Digital along with developers Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch & Bennett Foddy bring their unique physics based mayhem to this new gem. Nate is an unemployed bum with nothing going for him until he realises he has a power. Putting one foot in front of the other. Take in the sights while trying not to fall, except for falling in love with the local fauna, all while trying to find meaning to a wasted life. An insane premise but keep an eye out for it.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
A spin off from the Like a Dragon series, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii looks to have all the same over the top style of the main line series but with the lunacy of a pirate game thrown in. I have no idea what is going on in this one, you can go from sailing a 1700s tall ship to racing a go cart around the streets of Hawaii. It may be better experienced than talked about. Releasing in the bottle neck that is Feb locally on the 27th.
Reanimal
Tarsier Studios of Little Nightmares fame team up with THQ to bring you their next atmospheric horror adventure. This time you can team up with a friend or play alone to take a brother and sister through a hellish island to find and rescue your missing friends. Exploring by boat or on land you’ll be faced with a host of new and twisted monsters born from the characters own troubled pasts. No more than a coming soon time frame but fingers are crossed for this year.
Dune: Awakening
An open world MMO set on the deadly planet of Arrakis, fight your way through enemies both human and animal alike, battle the elements and keep your thirst in check. Building and crafting elements are what has me intrigued, more to come soon though with a March 31st release date.
The Alters
An original and unique idea from 11 bit Studios. Trapped on a planet Jan Dolski is a simple worker who needs help to escape. The way he goes about this is by making alternative versions of himself to carry out the tasks required. Elements of survival, base building and adventure all wrapped up in a sci-fi setting has The Alters at the top of my list for 2025. A first quarter release date is still in the details but may be pushed back a bit. Available on PC, PS5 and Xbox.
Doom: The Dark Ages
Everyone knows Doom, if you don’t I am sorry but go and educate yourself. It is a genre defining first person shooter that shows no sign of slowing down. Once again Id Software and Bethesda Softworks are at the helm but this time around there is much more to help you dispose of the demons of hell. Slated for a 2025 release but nothing to narrow it down this will thankfully be available on PC, PS5 and Xbox. This will be another day one visit from the slayer for me.
Dying Light: The Beast
Kyle Crane returns in a new zombie adventure set in the rural region of Caster Woods. Breaking free after years of brutal experiments Kyle will need to put aside his want for revenge and hide his monstrous abilities if he is to help those in need. More parkour and pain a plenty with Techland still at the helm. A coming soon placeholder is all we know for now but 2025 has a place for more zombie mayhem.
Ghost of Yotei
This one is a stretch but we can hope. A follow up to Sucker Punch’s smash hit Ghost of Tsushima, set 329 years later in the region of Hokkaido Japan. Not a lot is known for now other than you play a warrior Atsu who has taken on the mantle of “The Ghost”. New protagonist, beautiful visuals and Sucker Punch’s known talent are enough to sign me up for this one. Only available on the PS5 system but will eventually come to PC.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
Another penciled in for 2025 that I didn't see coming. I have played Death Stranding through numerous times now. It is a beautiful game that is one of the best I have ever played, but I am still not sure why, nor can I give you a definitive idea of what it is about. Kojima Productions at the helm again and I will happily go in blindly to find out what more I can do to help Sam Bridges make his way through this new and strange world. Central characters make a return along with some new faces, the trailer only dropped recently and while I want it now I want it when it is ready. Take your time Hideo, I’m happy to wait to be transported back to this amazing world.
There you have it, 25 for 2025. Some big titles in there with some that could make or break its developers. I am keeping an open mind this year and not getting involved in the politics and click bait of titles no matter how good the gossip might look.
Of course keep your eyes centred here for updates as they become available, we have a new look reporting style this year and some big things on the horizon.
